The color pattern on that looks exactly like a squash we got in the food share. If it is the same, it will be a sweet, fleshy zuchini-like squash. I would send you a picture but we ate it a few days ago
I think it’s going to be a kind of pear squash – I don’t see it getting any longer than it is fat. Right now, it’s about the size of my fist. I wish the vine would make more of them!
I have this squash and it was suppose to be a zuccinni. My garden center where I bought it didnt know what it is. mine is more green than orange and it is big. we have eaten 2 and have several more on there. they are good, but what are they?
They are sweet dumpling winter squash! If this is what yours is, then I’m guessing it’s not ripe yet. Bake them and eat just like butternut, buttercup, or acorn squash.
We have been gardening together for many years, and started this blog in 2006 as a way to track progress and journal our experiences.
We live on the "Anoka County Sand Plain" in Minnesota. We're slowly working on transforming our one-acre lot into a permaculture haven.
Follow our blog for tips and tricks on organic vegetable gardening ... links to resources and articles on the subject ... photos of our harvest ... and a generous sprinkling of dog and cat photos. Thanks for visiting!

Definitely not a crookneck summer squash!
The question now becomes: is this a summer squash or a winter squash? How big is it going to get, and when do I take it off the vine?

Here we have it:
Ours is the one in the middle. The other two are from our Easy Bean CSA. The verdict: it’s a sweet dumpling squash. Winter squash, that is. Yay!
