New Garden PlotNew adventures never come without twists and turns.

Try a new recipe, you may need to learn some substitutions. Try a new haircut, you may need to buy a hat. Try a new garden, you may end up relocating to the other side of the driveway.

Unfortunately, the neighbor already brush-hogged (a.k.a. mowed the very long grass) the plot we thought we were going to do. But then we were left with a pile of logs and a pile of boards that were larger than they looked before he mowed. Plus, the words “We can till once the mole is dead” didn’t really ring too well in our ears.

After eyeing the pile of wood (which would need to be carefully moved and stacked back up with spacers between each row), a fight with an old Ford F250 that just wouldn’t turn over, and looking around the area, Clare (the homeowner) suggested we relocate to the other side of the driveway.

I didn’t have a camera with me to take a good picture, but here’s a photo that we happened to shoot last time we were out there. The good news is that it’s about 250′ x 120′ – 30,000 square feet which is about 2/3 acres. Bigger than the side that we were originally going to garden, and that means more corn! (I like corn. But it’s so darn inefficent to grow). The bad news is that we’ll have more distance to move water should we need to wet the soil.
Watering Cart
Fortunately, they have this neat little tank on a trailer that is set up to hold water. The old garden site was just closer to the pumps – realistically, we’d have to hook this thing up to the truck and drive it around to water anyway. So we just have to drive 500 feet farther.

The dogs are loving the spring and the trips out to the future garden. Lolly and Marbles, the farm dogs, have warmed up to Nigel and Puck quite a bit… Lolly and Puck are on a quick track to becomming girlfriend/boyfriend.
