Compost delivery

Last year, we amended our new, sandy garden with seven pickup truck loads of compost from the Free Compost Site in our county.

Since then, the truck was sold for $300 (it was worth nearly every penny, too…), we moaned and groaned about the sand, and had a mediocre garden.

This year, we decided to have two 10-yard loads of compost delivered. That’s about twice as much as we picked up from the free pile last year – plus it’s screened and (hopefully?) better quality. The down side was the delivery charge… the whole 5 miles they had to deliver the compost cost us just as much as the compost itself.

And, now we are in for one incredible weekend pulling the weeds we haven’t had time to pull yet, spreading compost, cutting sod, and tilling. Should be fun!
